Oil Paintings

So you’re thinking of ordering an oil painting! Thanks for coming to check out my work. You may be a collector or perhaps this is your first time ordering a commission and you haven’t a CLUE where to start.

Don’t worry, I’m going to break it down for you!

Step 1. When considering placing a commission it is important to consider the time it takes from start to finish, this can take from 1-6 months depending on the size and subject. We will have an initial chat to ensure any questions are answered before we start to work together on this commission.

Step 2. I work from reference photos so please make sure you have a high quality image (or as best as you can find!) that you would like me to work from. If there is a combination of photos we can discuss this during the initial chat to see what would work best! I usually take a 50% deposit before starting and then the final amount upon completion. If this does not suit we can discuss alternative arrangements to suit you.

Step 3. Painting begins after the deposit has been secured and relevant reference images have been received. YAY! Once the painting is completed it then needs to dry which can take quite some time with oil paints…we all know the phrase watching paint dry?! Next step is to varnish the painting to ensure longevity of the painting. NEARLY THERE!

Step 4. Lastly if you would like your canvas framed that’s no problem! I can arrange that with a wonderful local framer. We can discuss styles to suit your interior and confirm costs before proceeding, the cost will vary depending on size and style chosen.

Step 5. I generally try to hand deliver original paintings as long as that is feasible (Wicklow/ Dublin area) but of course these things are unpredictable however safe delivery will be arranged whatever happens!

As you can imagine no two paintings are the same so there will inevitably be varying aspects to consider when it comes to prices but I have listed some prices here so you can get an idea of what to expect. These prices are guidelines and a final price will be agreed during the consultation.

12x12in. - €500
12x16in (approx A3) - €650
16x16in. - €800
16x20in. - €960
16x24in. (approx A2)- €1200
20x24in. - €1500
20x30in. - €2000
